Calprotectin
DESCRIPTION: Calprotectin is a valuable clinical marker for inflammation associated with infectious, ulcerative and malignant processes of the GI tract. It is the noninvasive "test of choice" for differentiating Irritable Bowel Syndrome (IBS) from Inflammatory Bowel Disease (IBD). The United States Food and Drug Administration (FDA) has approved this test as a means to aid physicians in diagnosing Crohn's Disease and ulcerative colitis.
