Dr. Patrick Hanaway, Vice President and Chief Medical Officer
Patrick Hanaway, M.D., is a board-certified family physician and president elect of the American Board of Integrative Holistic Medicine. As Chief Medical Officer of Genova Diagnostics, Dr. Hanaway's concentration is on the clinical implementation of applied nutritional biochemistry, with an emphasis on digestive disease and wellness. He is responsible for all clinical research activities and Genova Diagnostics' health education program. Dr. Hanaway reviews product quality initiatives, provides medical consultations for clients, and directs the strategic development of new and innovative diagnostic tests. He is a graduate of the University of Wisconsin and the Washington University School of Medicine with residency training at the University of New Mexico.
Dr. Andrea Girman, Director of Medical Education
Andrea Girman, M.D., MPH, is a graduate of the Johns Hopkins University School of Medicine, pediatric residency program and Bloomberg School of Public Health. In 2002, she completed fellowship training in Integrative Medicine at Beth Israel Medical Center's Continuum Center for Health and Healing in New York. She currently serves as Director of Medical Education for Genova Diagnostics in Asheville, NC. Prior to joining Genova in September 2008, Dr. Girman was an active clinician and consultant. She is co-author of Mosby's Handbook of Herbs and Supplements and their Therapeutic Uses and contributor to Integrative Medicine: Principles for Practice.
Dr. Stephen Goldman, Medical Education Specialist
Stephen
Goldman, D.C., earned his Bachelor of Science degree from the
University of Massachusetts. He received a Doctorate of Chiropractic
from Cleveland Chiropractic College, where he also served as a member
of the faculty. Following 25 years of family practice in Los Angeles
where he worked largely with athletes and patients concerned with
optimal health, Dr. Goldman relocated to Asheville and joined the
Medical Education team at Genova Diagnostics where he provides
educational support to physicians, and writes medical education support
materials.
Dr. Mary James, Medical Education Specialist
Mary James, N.D., is a graduate of the National College of Naturopathic Medicine, and has worked in private practice. Dr. James also represented a nutritional supplement company prior to joining the educational staff at Genova Diagnostics. Dr. James has lectured throughout the United States and Europe, as well as authoring many of our educational materials. She provides practical and technical support for practitioners, particularly in the areas of gastroenterology, endocrinology, osteoporosis, and amino acid metabolism.
Dr. John Furlong, Medical Education Specialist
Dr. John Furlong has over 20 years professional experience in integrative, naturopathic medicine. Graduating from Bastyr University in 1985, he established a collaborative practice in Mansfield, CT, with acupuncture and massage therapy practitioners. Moving to Genova Diagnostics in 1996, he was part of the core medical science team, consulting with practitioners and developing new testing in the cardiovascular, hormone and genomics areas. Returning to his practice in 2002, he now blends his direct patient care time with consulting for Genova.
